Lu Ban

(507-444 BC)

Lu Ban (507-444 BC) was an excellent inventor in ancient China. All his life, Luban paid attention to practice, was good at using his brain, and made great contributions in construction and machinery. He was able to build “palace terrace”, made “ladder” for siege, “Gouqiang” for boat warfare: created a wooden horse car, invented a ruler, ink fountain, plane, chisel and other wood tools, but also invented the mill, roller, lock and so on.

In order to encourage construction enterprises to strengthen management and promote the general improvement of engineering quality in China, the “China Construction Engineering Luban Award” was set up by the China Construction Industry Federation in 1987.
